Baby's Room

Pam and I have been joyfully getting ready for the coming of our little one.  I am very excited to be with her on Monday to behold the next ultrasound picture!

We have worked hard and we have cleared out the baby's room and have put down the carpet.  Of course we had to move the baby's carpet and stuff out when we Painted the room!  The room looks so nice and soon there will be a crib in it.

I am filled with so much joy and gratitude at the thought of being a father.  It really is one of the things that I have always wanted.

Gus Gus

Gus Gus was a good cat and a good friend.  He liked to cuddle with us and to rub up against us.  He was very fat, very fat.  I've always been very fond of Gus and he's been fond of me.  He was given to Pam about six years ago when her childhood cat passed away.  She's had Gus since he was a small kitten and has raised him.  Gus, like most cats could be pretty lazy, but he also liked to play.

He ran away a few days ago.  Usually when he gets out he sticks close by, we think the thunder scared him.  He was found yesterday right before a pack of stray dogs attacked him, blinding him and ripping him open.  Pam was called out of class to see him.  She pet him and called his name.  He meowed when he heard her and died.

I wrapped him in a sweater and carried him home.  Softly I apologized that I not found him, that I hadn't been there, that it had to have been me who let him out; I apologized for a lot of things to that dead cat.  The breeze gently moved the sweater as I walked so that it vibrated slightly as if the cat was purring in my arms telling me that it was okay.

I took him home and I buried him.  I conducted a funeral with Pam.  Yesterday was not a good day.

Gratitude

I went out to teach with the Elders last month.  I saw a "house", this is what it was Literally made of...
Posts
Plywood
Tarp
Bed Sheets
Juniper Branches
Sheet Metal
The nicest thing about it was a lamp.  It was a nice lamp, but other than that, wow.  I was very tempted to take a picture of it just because it was so shocking.  It's moments like that, that really make you feel grateful for what you have.

On a more funny note, I went out with the Elders again last night.  Elder Baugh and I came to a point in the road that was being washed over by a fast moving wash(place where it flash floods) we decided not to risk it and to turn around.  It turned out that it wasn't that bad and we could have driven through it no problem, we did however get stuck turning around.  I was very grateful that it wasn't me driving.  His choice of where to turn around wasn't wise.

I also got to help a new 1st grade teacher, his wife, and child move in last night.  They are members of the church!  He went to Italy on his mission and is excited to have a calling!  I'm very excited that this family has moved in, they will be a help to our branch.

I have a gorgeous wife who loves me and a baby on the way.

These are just a few of the things that I've been feeling grateful for lately.  Love you guys.

3 Day Weekend!

This weekend was needed.  Pam got to go to Vegas with friends, and I worked concessions on Friday night, took the dogs to Flagstaff on Saturday and ran errands, taught Sunday School and Priesthood on Sunday, and cleaned the house and gave Pam a romantic welcome home on Monday.

It was rough coming back to school, my body got used to sleeping in.  It's only Tuesday and I feel like I need another weekend!  My classroom is looking great though and I'm excited for Parent Teacher Conferences tomorrow night.  I've got some great kids this year.

Safe and Secure

There was an incident here in Pinon almost a week ago now.  A female teacher was attacked at around 5 am at her home in the housing.  She lives on the street where Pam and I were living when we first got married.  Luckily she is doing just fine now.

Both of the attackers were caught, one of which ran away to Phoenix before they apprehended him.  The school went on lockdown as a result of the incident because the police had reason to suspect that our students were in danger.

To be honest one of the first things that went through my mind after the attack was whether or not to buy a gun.

Wild rumors were going that day as well, five women were supposedly murdered, there were no murders in Pinon that day.  It's like the shoot out at Bashas, when I wrote about it on the blog all the information that was coming to me was pretty consistent, there were 7 shooters and three victims.  In reality there was only one victim and three gun shots.  According to one of the rumors a member of my branch supposedly killed his wife and dumped her body that day.  Nope, she's still alive and well, the man hasn't done anything wrong.

I think that's the thing I dislike most about being in a town this small, all the news is gossip or rumor.

Security goes on a lot more rounds in the housing at night now as a result of what's happened.  If I'm up late and watch out my window I'll see them drive past with their search lights every once in a while.  I'm not going to say how often in case some psycho is reading.  But the increased rounds plus the fact that the men have been caught have been helping us feel better and get back to normal and to feeling safe and secure.

Distractions while Teaching

Most lessons a person will ever teach, whether they are in school, at church, are as a missionary, as a mentor, or whatever else will have a moment where things get slightly sidetracked, and there is nothing wrong with that.  Sometimes it destroys the lesson, sometimes it improves, and sometimes it really has no impact whatsoever.

Today in Sunday School I taught about the Apostle Paul.  Paul was whipped 5 times, shipwrecked three times (he said that in all he'd been in the ocean a day and a night), stoned and there was even a time when he had to escape from a city by being lowered down a wall in a basket while the military was looking for him.  He also talked about his imprisonments and such.

It was after we read about how he was lowered down in a basket that someone in the class remarked that they should really make a movie about Paul.  Yes a movie about him would be pretty exciting, I have to admit.
