Hands mean - Pledge of faith, sincerity, and justice
Red Hands indicate - Mark of a baronet
A baronet was a commoner who was chosen to become a knight by the king of England; typically these individuals would have done something for the king to prove their worth. England is the only place where this position existed.
White means - Peace and sincerity
Red is for - Warrior or martyr; Military strength and magnanimity
The Chevron is - Protection; Builders or others who have accomplished some work of faithful service
Motto: Manus justa nardus
Motto Translation: A just hand is a precious ointment.
If I had to guess at the meaning of this crest I would say that the first person to carry it was someone who had done some sort of faithful service to a king of England, probably in battle and was therefore given the title of baronet and the red chevron. Even though this is a warrior crest it also has white meaning that the knight would also serve in peacetime. And judging from the motto, this was a person who believed in the healing power of doing good and being just with his fellow men.
This is the Kirk Family Crest, Pam really likes this family crest
Red is for - Warrior or martyr; Military strength and magnanimity
Gold is for - Generosity and elevation of the mind
Shepherd’s Crook - The shepherd's watchfulness; Christian faith; pastoral authority; also Episcopal jurisdiction and authority
Sword - Justice and military honor
Wreath of laurel leaves – Triumph
Flowers – Hope and joy
Green – Hope, joy, loyalty in love
Coats of Arms were to symbolize the beliefs and values of an individual or a family. The bearer of this crest is a faithful Christian who has fought for justice and military honor and triumphed. This is a hopeful and loyal person who is generous and has a good mind. Judging by the family motto this person was also quite competitive.
Kirk Family Motto – Optimum quod primum
Translation – That is best that is firstPam and I decided to try out a free program that would allow us to make our own crest. It chooses symbols for you to select from based on values that you tell it about. I really had wanted to make sort of a merger between the two crests since historically only one member of the family is actually authorized to carry the crest at a time, other family members would make their crests similar, but would do something to distinguish it from others until it was pasted on to them to have the special family crest.
The program didn't work the way that I had hoped, but it was still fun and it was free.
These were our values: Faithful, Understanding, Devoted, and Educated.
Arrows represent Strength, unity, and readiness
Eagle - Noble nature, strength, bravery, alertness or High spirited, ingenious, quick witted, and judicious
We chose the Moon and the Star since the Nauvoo Temple has several moon and star symbols and we wanted to have something about our wedding on the coat of arms since the program wouldn't do our original idea.
Moon - Serene
Star - Celestial goodness, noble person, Excellence
The sun was chosen because this website actually had LDS symbols to choose from and it is the sun symbol from the Nauvoo Temple.
The sun on a coat of arms means - Glory and Splendor; Fountain of Life.
Even though you can't tell the background is gold which means generosity and elevation of mind.
If you couldn't tell from this Engagement Coat of Arms, as I'm choosing to call it right now, we are very excited for our marriage in Nauvoo and aspire to make it into a Celestial Marriage that is strong, united, glorious, and that it will bring forth new life into the world.
We also hope to continue to see only the best in each other with generosity of spirit, which shouldn't be that hard because Pam has a noble nature and is the star on the crest. I love her a lot and can't wait to be in Nauvoo with her and the rest of our families!
While I was home teaching Pam started to draw a crest on paper, not colored yet, but it looks a whole lot better than my drawings.
To those who are reading, I'll see you in Illinois!
